  • "World's Best Christmas Markets?"

Coralie Collignon

Brussels, Belgium

World's Best Christmas Markets?

I only know Paris, Brussels, Namur and Berlin's Christmas Markets!

I would say Champs Elysées's Christmas Market is really focused...on tourists...Beautiful though, but not that interesting.

Brussels' Christmas Market is lovely! Good hot chocolate, and you can find many original ideas for Christmas!

Please share your experience! Maybe one would be worth the city trip :)

Germany's Christmas markets are wonderful, as you'd expect. Dresden has one of Germany's oldest and biggest Christmas market, great chance to discover the rebirth of one of Europe's most historic cities. And if you get the chance, head to one of the smaller, local Christmas markets, like the one on Koerner Square.Koerner Square

I really enjoyed the Christmas market in Aachen. It's a beautiful market set in the old city center weaving through the streets around and between the Aachener Rathaus and the Aachen Cathedral. This was Charlemagne's town, so there's quite a bit of history there.

In Valkenburg aan de Geul, you can go to a beautiful market inside the maze of Marlstone caves there. That's a pretty special market.

Compiegne has a really nice Christmas market - very authentic and beautiful. This is also the town where Joan of Arc was captured, so it's an interesting town to visit.

My favorite markets are two in Germany Aachen like others mentioned below has some of my favorite vendors. Not too cheesy or crafty like so may others. I have found there and the gluhwein is particularly tasty there. I love the setting in the square and my other favorite market is in Monschau also in Germany. We just got back from here and had a wonderful time and warm apple strudel with ice cream at the cafe right on the water near the glass factory! Its a must if you get to this one. I had one amazing year when I was there when it happened to be snowing and it was fairy-tale dream like. I love the town without the Christmas market and it only just adds more charm. The other markets around are too big for me I tend to like the more quaint ones. I have always heard good things about Trier and Strasbourg and Nuremberg, Germany Enjoy!!!
