Best way to get from Marco Polo Airport to Venice

What's the best way to get from the Marco Polo Airport to the Venice?  I hear that there's a ferry from there.  Does anyone know the cost and how it actually works?  Thanks!

There are ferries and water taxis, but there are buses, too. I've done them all before -- it's about $8 (€ 6,00) to ride the bus versus about about $15 to take the ferry, and even more for a water taxi. The buses are cheap, but they don't have space underneath for luggage, so if you're traveling light, I suggest you go that route.

The ATVO is the bus to take. There are stations throughout Marco Polo Airport to buy the tickets or you can prepurchase them online and print them out: http://88.36.245.11/webticketing/ (I know, weird link, but you can maneuver through http://www.atvo.it/index.php?lang=en to get there, too). You'll want to get tickets to the Piazzale Roma . Once you get there, everything's very walkable.

    Hope that helps!

ACTV buses are the way to go. Here's a map of what's going on at Marco Polo when it comes to buses on the official ACTV site: http://www.actv.it/ifyouarriveatmarcopoloairport They write: "Line 5-AeroBus, which takes about 20 minutes to reach one of the main Venice tourist terminals in Piazzale Roma, where the ACTV boat lines travel to the centre of Venice. The Line 5-AeroBus leaves from the bus stop a few meters outside the exit of the arrivals lounge in the airport (Exit B)."

Just 6 euros to get you over (at least that's how much it cost when I was there last year). You can get tickets to both at the airport and then once you actually get to Venice, you can transfer to ACTV boats that sail around the canal to get around. There are different canal routes, so just look at a map there to get to where you need to be.

That map and this info is VERY helpful, and I actually will need to ride those boats! This transporting from the airport to Venice thing is probably the one thing that I was most nervous about since I'll be by myself, but phew! You're a lifesaver, Sunil! · (1 likelikes)

By the way, since you know so much about Italy and how to get around Venice, do you happen to have some suggestions for things to see in Venice? I posted a question here: http://www.trippy.com/question/48-h… :) · (1 likelikes)

To add to Andreas' answer, there's also the ACTV bus line that operates from Marco Polo, which actually has compartments underneath the bus for luggage if you need it. It's the same deal as the AVTO bus -- at € 6,00, it costs the same as the AVTO bus, you can also buy tickets to board from vending machines at the airport, and it also drops you off at the same spot, the Piazzale Roma. So you've got another bus option there :)
