What is the weather like in Stamford, CT?

What's the weather in Stamford like round the year? I've got a potential job offer there and heard the winters are "brutal".

Stamford (and Connecticut in general) has variety in weather conditions from season to season. The summers can be fairly hot and humid with average high temperatures in the 80s. Winters are generally cold (average high in the 30s/40s) and snowfall is occasional. Stamford and the southern coast of CT does not get as much snow as the rest of the state (averaging about 30 inches of snow per year versus Hartford at 45 inches per year). I wouldn't classify CT winters as "brutal" but there are occasional snowfalls of 12"+ and driving conditions can be less than ideal.

Last winter was bad compared to most. I think people have been spoiled by some relatively "warm winters" here. For example it's almost never under freezing long enough for ponds to be safe to skate on. · (0 likelikes)

I moved to Stamford about a year ago, so I have seen only one winter. In my experience, brutal is a very strong word for the winter last year, there was a bunch of snow on the ground throughout the winter, but commutable to and from work. There were a couple of times when work was closed due to heavy snow but things were back to normal the next day . It was quite brutal as you would move more towards the northeast (Massachusetts, etc.). Overall I would say, it's manageable except for a couple of times during the season, but during heavy snow and severe weather advisory, companies/schools call the day off. Hope this helps to some extent.

Its not that bad once you get used to it...typically along the shore there's less snow when we get storms because of the ocean temperatures, however this year the opposite happened and the shoreline got hit hard. Some years we get no snow at all, some we get feet. We've had warm enough days in December to be outside with short sleeve shirts, but three years ago had a snow storm while leaves were still on the trees that devastated the state.

Best time of year is right now, SPRING. 60's, 70's, 80's. Cool nights. August can get hot, 90's occasionally but it doesn't last long. September, October are beautiful. Then winter all bets are off.

Seriously, the winters vary so much you never know what you're going to get. Can't believe its any worse than Colorado though!
