If you want to stay right in Salt Lake and don't want to do trips to surrounding areas here are some things to do and see within the city.

    1. Temple Square- This where the LDS temple, tabernacle, assembly hall, and other historic buildings are located. There are free organ performances each weekday and Saturdays at noon. There are also other free performances periodically. There are two visitor centers in where you can learn about the LDS church and the temple. If you go to the east of the temple there are beautiful gardens. You can also tour the The conference center to the north of temple square. They have beautiful artwork inside and gardens on top of the building. Here is a link to the events calendar at temple square https://www.lds.org/church/events/temple-square-events/temple-square-performances?lang=eng

    2. Lehi Family History Center - If you are interested in learning about your family history you can go to the Family History Center. This is a large center with people to help you find your ancestors and learn about them. This is located at 35 North West Temple.

    3. City Creek Center - If you like shopping you can go to the city creek center which is located at 50 south main street. There are also some good places to eat here including the Red Iguana, Blue Lemon, or the The Cheesecake Factory.

    4. The Red Butte Garden & Arboretum - These gardens are very beautiful. There are tours and educational opportunities. They also have an amphitheater that they hold concerts at throughout the summer. Here is the link http://www.redbuttegarden.org/

    5. The Cathedral of the Madeleine - This is a beautiful Catholic Cathedral. http://www.utcotm.org/. The building is beautiful on the outside. Also there is beautiful art on the inside.

    6. The Utah Museum of Fine Arts - There are good exhibits here are times. We have enjoyed this museum. For the current exhibits you can go to http://www.mfa.org/exhibitions

    7. Liberty Park and the Tracy Aviary - This is located at 589 East 1300 South http://www.tracyaviary.org/ this is a good place to see different exhibits of birds. Very cool place to visit. There are also many other areas of the park to enjoy.

    8. Ensign Peak - If you like the outdoors and hiking you can hike up Ensign peak and see the entire valley. This hike is started at 1002 N Ensign Vista Drive.

    9. Utah's Hogle Zoo - The zoo is very good to visit if you like zoos. This zoo has recently been renovated and has some new exhibits. For more info go to hoglezoo.org.

    10. The Sprague Branch - This is an interesting place to go and browse and sit and relax.

Downtown has many cool places to explore. I have listed some great places to visit but there are many other. You can ride the light rail train in the downtown area for free. There is also GREENbike available with a cost of $5 for a 24 hour membership. This gives you a bike for 30 minutes at a time to ride the bike throughout the city. I hope you enjoy Salt Lake City it is a cool city to explore.

Take a drive up Little Cottonwood Canyon to Snowbird, alta, mountain flowers abound, then drive west to the Great Salt Lake Marina, the marina is to be remodeled, so all the boats are out of the water for now, in the parking lot. Nice view from the platform at the end of the parking lot. If you hike, drive up Millcreek Canyon to some great hiking trails.

I'd go straight out to Park City and ride the Alpine Coaster. You can ride it in the summer, too. About 45 minutes from the airport.

Liberty Park is a nice walk. Not sure how far you're willing to venture out but you can always do a day trip into Bryce Canyon National Park or Zion National Park
