Looking for the hip, indie rock scene in France

Travelling to Paris and surroundings near the end of the summer... where do the cool kids hang out? Is there an Indie rock scene? What bands should I see, and where?

Point Éphémère near the Canal Saint Martin is great. Really cool old factory/warehouse that’s been turned into a club. My favorite music venue in Paris. I love it because it's very easy to step outside there and get some air.

L'international and Le Piano Vache are good, too but smaller and grittier--more like New York punk clubs.

This isn't necessarily an "indie" venue, but the Institut du Monde Arabehas some amazing music events, not to mention a huge free tango night every Sunday during the summer. I've heard some incredible music here.

As for bands, I love a group called Fauvre and I think they’re going on tour in France this year so you might want to try to catch them. They incorporate all kinds of spoken word/poetry/rap into their music. Here's their link: http://fauvecorp.com/#concerts

    Hey Adrienne!

I would say Bastille is a great place to hang around and will definitely have some cool places to go to... one of my favorites was Charlotte Sarl that is in Bastille. I also went to a club right across the street which was pretty busy on a Friday. I only spent my nights in this area so I am not sure what it is like during the day... If your looking for some excellent food, I always tell people just to walk down Rue Cler St - some of the best food I've had was on that street market!

    Have a great trip!

    Hey Adrienne!

There are lots of great music venues, but I'd check out lineups at La Flèche D'Or, La Maroquinerie, Nouveau Casino Le Pop Up du Label Point Éphémère

I just wrote up some of my favorite music venues (those above) and other nightlife spots here, may be helpful. I tend to hang in the 3rd arrondissement, 4th arrondissement, 9e arrondissement, 10e Arrondissement, 11th arrondissement of Paris, 19th arrondissement, & 20th arrondissement (Right Bank lady here).

There are also great festivals in the summer months. I'd suggest peeking at the HiP Paris Blog shortly before you arrive; I write a monthly events round-up and will def include festivals. I'd recommend keeping your eyes peeled for Rock en Seine, We Love Green, Solidays... and there are plenty more too :)

    Enjoy!
