Would you recommend Osaka for a Japan first-timer? · (0 likelikes)

Yeah I think so. Osakans are known for being friendly types. Don't be put off by any language concerns. I have never ever had any problem getting around. If you ask someone they are willing to help because they appreciate being able to practise their English. · (1 likelikes)

Oh one other thing if you like your food Osaka has the nickname of the Dinner Plate of Japan. Heaps of fantastic cuisine. · (1 likelikes)

Great thoughts. Thanks. I've traveled China quite a big, but not Japan. I'm a history buff, so I have these romanticized visions of Okinawa that I think are probably quite wrong in 2013, and am looking for alternatives. Probably won't take this trip til late next year, but always good to look ahead! · (0 likelikes)

If you like History then a place called Nara is a great place to check out in Osaka. It was Japan's first Capitol. The Todaiji Temple is amazing! Worlds largest wooden building. House one of the worlds largest Buddhas 15 meters tall! · (1 likelikes)

I don't know about apartments, but if you're flying solo, "First Cabin" might interest you. It's a budget type hotel (shared bathrooms), but really nice looking digs.

Try searching in Airbnb.com or Roomorama.com. They're booking sites that include apartment rentals. Whats nice about these sites is that they have certified photographers who actually go these places so what you see is what you get so how it really looks like in the room and how the neighborhood looks like outside is pretty accurate

Oh thats ok. Youre a great husband if you just let her :) My wife would probably want to stay at a hotel too. I couldn't do couchsurfing anymore after getting married :) · (1 likelikes)

I didn't realise you replied. Didn't get any emails from trippy and just assumed no one replied. Have you found a place yet? I've actually found a few apartment-esque places you might want to try. They are Hotel Chuo Selene (not really a hotel even though the name might suggest otherwise) and Hotel Kinki (again, and pardon the kinky sounding name). What's the reason for your preference in apartments though? · (0 likelikes)

Hey Jonathan, no problem mate. I have kind of moved away from the apartment idea. My Wife is not too keen for what ever reason so seeing as she runs the show :) we are back to hotels. First trip we stayed at Fraser Residence which is very good but expensive. The second time we stayed at Hotel Hillary's near Den Den town good location but made the mistake of cramming 3 people in one Japanese hotel room ...Fail. Third time I got a great deal at The Nikko which was terrific. My ideal hotel would be the Cross Hotel in Dotobori but it is very expensive. · (0 likelikes)
