Low key seafood in Newport - so many options. But the best, most fresh is right off the fishing boats at the Aquidneck Lobster Co. (31 Bowen's Wharf Newport, RI 02840, +1 401-619-2890).

Raw bar - downstairs at Clarke Cooke House on Bannister's Wharf is a casual spot with loads of ambiance. Check out the sailing memorabelia on the upper floors. Great martinis, champagne and good beer list too!

The best chowder in my opinion is still found on Bannister's Wharf at The Black Pearl . It's award winning and can be found inside, but also outside on the patio in nice weather.

In general, if you want to know about the perfect day in Newport with some off the beat things to see/do, check out my article here: http://blog.mygola.com/2013/06/the-perfect-day-in-newport-by-land-and-sea/

Aquidneck Lobster Co. is one of my favorites. You walk through an actual market--pools of lobsters, bushels of shellfish, etc and out to the restaurant. The restaurant itself is surrounded by a wrap around deck and piers over the water. We like to sit on the side of the bar with the sliding glass doors along the wall. Lobster rolls, shell fish, raw bar, bloody marys, beers. Great casual atmosphere.

Scales & Shells on Thames St is my favorite - especially if you're looking for low-key. Great food and nice relaxed ambiance.
