Where part of Mexico to celebrate anniversary in January?

Looking to celebrate our anniversary in Mexico, the first week of January! What part of Mexico? Any hotel suggestions or ones to stay away from? Things to do? Places to visit?

If I were celebrating an anniversary, I'd go to Central Mexico instead of the beaches every tourist goes to. Guanajuato might be one of the most romantic cities in the entire continent. It is that charming. San Miguel de Allende is also close-by and a really nice town.

Or if you want a good mix of big city amenities and charming colonial downtowns, Queretaro or Puebla are excellent destinations.

Just FYI, the Guanajuato marker the site puts is not exactly for the city: it's in the middle of a highway a bit Southeast of Guanajuato City. I'm guessing it's a marker for Guanajuato State. · (0 likelikes)

I personally really like the south west coast of Mexico around Puerto Escondido

Really nice beaches and a relaxed bohemian vibe and very little mass tourism.

I would recommend Playa del Carmen & Tulum close to Cancun, just less crowded, beautiful beaches and chilled atmosphere. advised to order a hotel, its busy time.
