All of the old glamourous theaters in downtown LA are being restored and many have reopened as concert venues. They're gorgeous places to see live music. The best are the theater at the Ace Hotel Los Angeles (once owned by Charlie Chaplin and Mary Pickford), the The Orpheum Theatre and for smaller shows, Regent Theater DTLA(which has an awesome pizza restaurant inside along with a bar and two music venues). It's near the amazing Grand Central Market, the best place to graze the day away with awesome breakfast sandwiches at Egg, sandwiches at Belcampo Meat Co. and thai food.

Also for jazz check out Blue Whale in Little Tokyo and the Tuesday night sets at The Charleston. For rock there's The Echo, The Wilternand don't miss the outdoor shows at The Greek Theatre and the Hollywood Bowl.

For rock (and hipsters), The Satellite is a pretty great small venue. Lots of great shows and I usually see some big musicians there checking out the shows too.

Blue Whale and Harvelle's Santa Monica are both great for jazz. Make sure you check Harvelle's schedule, they have everything across the board (and it's usually always amazing).

The Mint always has something interesting going on too. Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles have both performed here. It's a LA hidden gem venue for sure.

Other venues to check out: Troubadour, The Sayers Club, The Roxy Theatre and the Bootleg Theater.

    Troubadour
