Food suggestions for 4 week family road trip

We are doing a 4 week family holiday w/ kids this year. I am wanting to know what are the local food specialties of the places we are planning to visit. Or must visit restaurants or cafes. We will be going through Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Flagstaff, Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park, Grand Canyon, Yosemite, and San Francisco.

We eat spices, hot food, seafood and well, anything really. Not necessarily looking for kids menus or fries with everything. Exclusive restaurants are not in our budget.

We also love coffee. Even the kids.

If you are anywhere near Winslow, try the Turquoise Room. Possibly the best southwestern food I've ever had. In Flagstaff, Burritos Fiesta Fresh Mexican is a super casual family run restaurant that will give you a great taste of Arizona style Mexican food.

LA's food scene is so diverse, you can eat Thai food one day in one of the old standby's like Jitlada Restaurant or Sanamluang Cafe in Thai Town / Hollywood, Japanese at any of the restaurants along the Sawtelle corridor (like Tsujita for ramen), Korean food in Korea Town the next day. An In-N-Out burger is a must try, and so are the tacos. I like Chichen Itza Restaurant in downtown LA for its authentic Yucatan-style dishes and spicy habanero sauce, and Cerveteca in Venice for its happy hour. My favorite place for brunch / lunch is Republique - try any of the dish with poached eggs (their shakshouka is out of this world - I dream about it!) and get their pastries to go. It's located in a historical building that used to be Charlie Chaplin's office. Depending where you'll be based when you're in LA, check out one of the local farmer's markets too!

A foodie family?! I love it!

Ok, here's the deal with LA:

In-N-Out Burger - who doesn't love a great burger? It's fresh and make sure you read the secret menu before ordering.

Palms Thai Restaurant - LA has the largest Thai population outside of Thailand and this restaurant is LEGIT. Guests sit at huge communal tables and at night they have singers and even a Thai Elvis impersonator. Great for all ages and reasonably priced.

Tatsu Ramen or Tsujita LA Artisan Noodles Annex - Tatsu has the best ramen in LA and Tsujita's dipping noodles, well, I've met a person who didn't love them! The Tatsu Ramen on Melrose also offers a Ramen Burger :)

The Boiling Crab - the wait to sit down is long for a reason! Solid seafood and a fun hands-on experience. You can also order it to go and sit at the small restaurant across the hall, you just have to order drinks (soda, etc).

Gjusta Bakery - phenomenal pastries and coffee.

Chego! - the Ooey Gooey fries are everyone's favorite and that little pocket of Chinatown is fun for everyone to explore.

I tried to give a little bit of everything around town, if you know what part of town you'll be staying in/driving through, I'm happy to make more suggestions :)

    And some Las Vegas tips:

Lotus of Siam - more great Thai food, off of The Strip.

The LINQ - this area has a lot of small, great restaurants that are easy to get in and out of. Jump on The High Roller Observation Wheel while you're there!

    Happy Travels!

I was in Los Angeles for work and went to dinner at The Farm of Beverly Hills It was SO good. The map is marking this in Beverly Hills, but it's really in the downtown area. It's right near the Staples Center and Nokia Theatre LA Live. There are a handful of other restaurants there as well.

Here's a post I have about L.A. Live and The Farm! I'd check the L.A. Live website to see what kind of events are happening there when you're in town.

in los angeles Redondo Beach, there's seafood market by the beach, right under parking lot, you can buy fresh seafood and either eat it live like uni (really yummmy) or ask them to steam for you :) it's a very family friendly place, just the restrooms are dirty so be aware!

Los Angeles - A great bakery & cafe to go to is Porto's Bakery Burbank, there are a few locations in Burbank, Glendale and Downey. They are known for their cheese rolls, potato balls, guava cheese rolls and all the other delectable pastry/dessert items. They are always busy but wait times go by pretty quickly. Urth Caffé - Pasadena has a great tasting honey vanilla latte and spanish latte. There are a few locations in Pasadena, Santa Monica and downtown Los Angeles.

You'll love all of the options you can find in the Southwest portion of the US. I agree... an In n' Out Hamburger is a must do. You'll find them all over California, in Las Vegas and there are several in Arizona and Utah as well.

If you like jewish deli fare... there's Canter's Deli. One of LA's oldest established deli's with great food, kind of a retro vibe and you'll spot an occasional celeb from time to time. Great pastrami and corned beef sandwiches in the Fairfax district.

A relatively new Mediterranean style restaurant group in Arizona is Pita Jungle. There is one in Scottsdale. Casual atmosphere and really great food!

A family friendly and easy on the budget choice for Asian food in LA is ShopHouse Kitchen. Choose your base, rice, noodles and salad. A meat or veggie protein option, a veggie, a sauce and a topping and you've got a bowl of Asian style food "your way".

For great local eats on a budget (or even if not) you have to visit both Original Tommy's and In-N-Out Burger (any location, there are quite a few). California originals and favorites of both locals and visitors. They are unique, even though they are fast food chains. Enjoy!
