Best breweries in the LA Area?

Hey,

I am really into checking out breweries wherever I travel to. I haven't been in LA too long so I have only checked out Goldenroad Brewery in Glendale - Can anyone recommend any other breweries/beer bars/brewpubs worth checking out in the LA area?

Thanks!

    Hi Danielle,

In addition to Golden Road Brewing , there's Angel City Brewery in Downtown LA's Art's District (which is an incredible neighborhood) and Eagle Rock Brewery . The great thing is, all three are located on the same side of the city and it's possible to hit them all in a self guided tour. You can learn all about it in my blog post, 3 Must Visit Breweries in Los Angeles.

    In terms of beer bars:

Tony's Darts Away is probably the best and there are 40 California beers on tap (it's owned by one of the owners of Golden Road). However, for most people, Tony's is probably a bit out of the way.

In Silver Lake there's Mohawk Bend (2141 Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90026) which also has a huge selection of beers on tap and is also owned by the Tony's/Golden Road guy.

A few others to check out are Little Bear ( Little Bear L.A. Restaurant ) in Downtown LA's Art's District, Beer Belly in Koreatown, The Library Alehouse in Santa Monica, and The Daily Pint also in Santa Monica.

Oh and one more, although everyone knows about this place for their exotic sausages, Wurstküche Restaurant (there's a location Downtown and in Venice) has a really awesome beer selection.

    Cheers!

There are a few great breweries in Torrance near Del Amo street. One small shop is called Smog City Brewery - it's amazing. Don't let the warehouse location dissuade you - the people inside are terrific and the brews they have are amazing. You can usually get tasting sizes of all their beers, they have about 15 on tap at a time. Highly suggest it!!

My favorite brewery is just a bit outside of Los Angeles in Escondido named Stone Brewing Company. It's definitely worth the drive because of the awesome space they have created. (I know this brewery has expanded into areas closer to LA, but I have not visited those locations)

First of all, it's an actual working brewery. You can take a tour and see how things really work from the inside. After the tour they have free samples of their beer for you to try. Stone Brew Tours

When you get hungry, the restaurant area is very boutique. They serve some really good food like Homemade Kimchi and wild-boar Korean BBQ sandwiches in a very laid-back, relaxing garden area. Stone Brew Bistro

The beer garden really delivers a unique finishing touch to an excellent afternoon (at least it does for me!). The area is large enough that you can get lost for a bit with a nice pint. Stone Brew Beer Gardens

After you're finished eating, fill up a few growlers for the road. It's definitely a great value for the price. Getting Beer at Stone Brew

I hope this helps, have fun!

I've heard some good things about El Segundo Brewing Company but I haven't personally been to their tasting room myself. I have enjoyed their Blue House IPA at some local gastro pubs, so I need to get over to the tasting room one of these days.

Stay in San Diego for that! It's pretty much the brew central of the world! Los Angeles has an awesome cocktail scene though! Check out Library Bar and The Roger Room . Also there is always Seven Grand for your cocktail needs, but we have one of those in San Diego.
