Anyone know of any "speakeasy"/mixology type places?

I'll be staying in the Finsbury Park area. But willing to travel around.

Go to The Mayor Of Scaredy Cat Town near Spitalfields/Liverpool St. Try the chilli rum. Best bit is finding your way in. Enjoy.

Edward is right. Scaredy Cat is a great pub! I've also been meaning to try out Evans & Peel (http://www.evansandpeel.com/ ). It's themed like a 1940s detective novel and you need to provide the man at the door with a 'case' to be solved before you gain entry. Definately a place you need a reservation.

You'll struggle for speakeasies in Finsbury as it's more of a pub area really. Head to Callooh Callay, 69 Colebrooke Row or The Nightjar. I'd go with the first purely for the quirkiness but the others are great too.

    My favourites are:

    Bourne & Hollingsworth

    http://www.bourneandhollingsworth.com/

Tiny place, amazing cocktails out of tea cups and the decor of your grandmas living room.

    Opium in China town

    http://www.opiumchinatown.com/

Seriously good cocktails and the added bonus of getting dim sum too!

    The Loft - Clapham

    http://www.theloftclapham.com/landing.php

This bar knows how to make a good cocktail and have an amazing choice of drinks. The prices are pretty reasonable and they do cocktail making classes which are great fun.
