Opinion on staying at Memmo Alfama vs. hotel in Chiado. Budget $$$$

I am planning a trip to Lisbon for New Years eve and will be staying 5 nights. Thinking of staying out of the center in Alfama. The Memmo looks fantastic. Any opinions on location. Also suggestions for accommodation in Chiado or other areas. Budget $$$$.

Memmo Alfama Hotel Lisboa is right in the very center of Lisbon and Chiado is very central too.

Chiado has more night life than Alfama that is a bit more on the quiet side with a few fado bars.

But both parts of the city are very centrally located within walking distance of Rossio and such places.

Lisbon is a great, great city with different vibes in each neighborhood. A lot depends on what you're looking for in the vicinity. Alfama is great if you're looking for some traditional restaurants, fado clubs, and quieter streets. I stayed in Bairro Alto - which is more of a late-night scene, but because of the crowds I found it super safe at night and the noise really wasn't an issue off of the main bar alleys. If you're looking to be nearby more late-night restaurants and some bars for NYE - I think it would be a great neighborhood.

Alfama this side of the Chiado and Bairro Alto, all part of the center of Lisbon old town. The Hotel Santa Justa Lisboa or the Internacional Design Hotel can be a good option in Chiado, the Solar Do Castelo in Alfama is very beautiful.

I Hope this helped a little bit, if you need to plan any other aspect of your trip, don´t hesitate to send me a e-mail.

Memmo is fantastic. Alfama is a great location if staying in Lisbon vs the coast is important. Chiado is walking distance or a short tuk tuk/cab/uber ride away.

Hi, Alfama is really not far off the centre. you might also try Santa Catarina, it's totally cool and you'll be at walking distance from most places. The beautiful Lisbon trams will be your public transport from there, as they only run in the very centre
