How much time to spend in Kuala Lumpur?

I have three weeks to travel around Southeast Asia, and I definitely want to check out Kuala Lumpur. How much time should I spend there? I've heard some people say 2 days is enough, and others say that you need a week to really experience it. I love architecture, outdoor markets, and food! Any advice would be great.

About 3 nights I feel would be enough in KL. You can find interesting architecture at the mosques, temples, museum, royal buildings and shophouses. And of course Petronas Towers. Night markets & foodies will be at Bukit Bintang/ Jalan Alor area. Skip the night market at Chinatown, went once and its really just a tourist trap selling crappy stuff.

If you want to see the local crafts, Central Market (Pasar Seni) & Craft Cultural Complex are interesting too.

If this trip to KL is a teaser to the rest of the Malaysia, than you might want to check out other cities if you have more time.

    Hope this helps!

This all depends on what kinda travelr you are.

I am sure that many people will be fine with 2-3 days while others like me can be there for weeks without getting bored.

If you like architecture then you have both some older and some very new architecture.

Some good places have already been mentioned and I would also recommend Merdeka Square (Dataran Merdeka) as an interesting place to visit.

Hi, I'd suggest 2 nights. Most travellers are just in Kuala Lumpur for transit before making their way to islands or other states in Malaysia that offer plenty of nature activities. While spending 2 nights or more, you can try these 11 absolutely free things to do in KL! http://www.thecuriouswanderlust.com/?p=1336

If it's going to be your first time, you might as well do all the touristy things anyway, no matter what people tell you.

You might want to look up the KL Hop-On Hop-Off bus tour as it takes you around most of the attractions in KL.

That aside, they turned the old palace into a museum..
