  • "Places to visit, things to do for a solo 30 year old female?"

Places to visit, things to do for a solo 30 year old female?

Hi, I'm planning to visit the Thai Islands on the West (Krabi, Koh Phi Phi). It'll be my first solo trip and I've heard Koh Phi-Phi is popular with younger people. Is 30yo too old?!

I'm looking to go mid December till Boxing Day - which places/restaurants etc would be worth visiting and what activities would be best for me to plan?

I'll probably budget about £80 a day.

Thanks

Hi Maggie, I would say it depends on how you are as a person. do you like to party all night, meet a lot of young people, lay on the beach with hangovers? Then Koh Phi Phi is perfect. But if you're into a more "quiet" relaxed holiday I would go to Railey Beach which is near Phi Phi and Krabi - and then maybe visit Phi Phi for a few days.

Also you could stay at Long Beach Krabi at Phi Phi which is the more quiet area.

    Have a good trip.

    Hi Maggie,

There is loads to do between Phuket, Koh Phi Phi and Krabi I would recommend you think of dividing up your time between locations and stay away from the tourist hot hubs like Patong.

    Krabi

The more secluded you go the more mature and expert the travellers you are likely to encounter.

Having said that, as much as I agree with Thierry that Phi Phi is rather crowded, you will want to see it regardless (a day trip or overnight may sufice).

If you are traveling alone and want to socialise during the day, going on island/activity tours is a good way to mix with other travellers. Assuming it is your first time visiting, I would suggest that you go snorkeling the hongs (caves) in Phang Nga Bay.

    Ko Lanta

You might also want to take a look at nearby Ko Lanta for another idyllic beach option... perhaps with less crowds.

Good luck planning and have a brilliant(ly warm) Christmas!

    Hi Maggie,

Koh Phi Phi does see a lot of younger party animals but its not just them. 30 is definitely not old! If you like to party, you would enjoy Phi Phi for a few nights but if you're looking to really enjoy the beach, I'd recommend to move on from Phi Phi after 3-4 nights. I really enjoyed Railey Beach in Krabi, you can read about that here.

Railay is the perfect balance between partying and has a beautiful beach. You can also learn to rock climb if that interests you.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me.

    Cheers,

    Natasha

Hi - I am also a solo female traveler in my thirties. I have to say that I did not enjoy Koh Phi Phi at all. I did think it was too young, too much party, and too many tourists/touts. For me, all of that spoiled the beauty of it. I would recommend splitting your time between Krabi/Railey Beach and Ko Lanta/Koh Lanta, which you can get to by ferry. And if you really want to see Koh Phi Phi for yourself, maybe just do a day trip. It's right in the same area.

And I know you didn't mention it, but also avoid Phuket!

I also wanted to add that I have found it more difficult to meet other travelers in higher end hotels/resorts. Don't be too afraid of the backpacker spots. As long as you aren't in a really big party spot, you'll be fine. I've found a better since of community in the less expensive guesthouses/beach bungalows. · (0 likelikes)

    Hi.

Unless you like over crowded beaches, I do not recommand you Phi phi. Phi phi is between phuket and Krabi and it s the meeting point for all travellers.

Krabi is lovely and offers very nice beaches too. Hong Island Krabi for example is very beautiful.

Thierry living in Krabi for about 5 years.

One suggestion would be to sign up for a boat trip to Koh Phi Phi Don and other islands. While the price may be real cheap, ask how many people are on the boat during the voyage. We signed up for one that was dirt cheap but the long boat was packed to the gills with others. It was a bit cramped and uncomfortable to say the least.
