Things to do/see in Instanbul?

Hoping to go to Turkey for a few days and trying to figure out what we would do there to make it worth it (we'll be coming from Ethiopia). I'll be with my dad so you can rule out bars/partying of any kind.

Best bars and night clubs you can find near Taksim Street and best restaurants for turkish and international food. During day you can make shopping in Cevahir in Sisli area. And u can make shopping in Laleli area and Grand Bazaar . U can visit museums in Aya sofia and many old mosques near by. Ask the concierge in The hotel and they will give u advices. But be careful from taxi drivers. They are big thieves and whatever u do u will not gonna win against them. The best thing to is the metro because all Istanbul is connected by easy and user friendly metros. Good luck

There are so many things you can do. The list of things will depend on the amount of time. There is possibly no way you can see all things that needs to be seen. Istanbul is a very old and historical city. I think you should start from Sultanahmet.

    1. Hagia Sophia : This a very monumental and historic building from the Roman empire. It dates back to about 1500 years a ago.
    2. Topkapı Palace: This is the main palace of the Ottoman Empires.
    3. Basilica Cistern (Yere batan sarnıcı) The is an old and intriguing underground water reservoir
    4. Grand Bazaar This a mega mall from the Ottoman era. You will be amazed by its size compared to its age. Be careful with what you buy and its price. You can be easily ripped off.

In terms of historical sites and museums there is one more to mension. It is not in the Sultanahmet region. But it is worth seeing. Chora Church Exceptionally well preseved mosaics with stories from the bible.

You can also go to Taksim Square and İstiklal Caddesi .

Another good thing to do would be to take a Bosphorus Tour by ferry from Eminönü Şehir Hatları Vapur İskelesi. There are 2 types of tours. (Long and Short)

Go to the roof of the Seven Hills near Sultanahmet Square Apartment . Sıp your beer against the view.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. I think this will be sufficient for 2-3 days.

Hello i dont know about bars a lot there, but there are 2 nice nargile/hookah bars on the street that goes up from the Mısır Çarşısı (Egyptian Market) to the Blue Mosque on the ride side. Really nice places with great service, at least when i was there.

You will adore turkey ! i travelled with my mum and we really had a wonderful time. I am not sure what your passion points are but some key sites are off course in Istanbul are the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia Which is just breath taking with religions overlapping in each corner . They are right opposite each other so not much walking. Around the corner was one of my favourite places the Topkapı Palace , we also opted to see the Harem Which we found fascinating.

This old town area is really nice and very comfortable to stroll around filled with many little shops and cafés. Make sure to try the local food . I discovered an obsession with Iskander kebabs . The local ice cream is fantastic too.

It's also wonderful to see the city from the water and gaze at the Asian and European side , so find a boat tour you might both like . We opted for dinner on the water 360 İstanbul . Which is floating pontoon filled with restaurants and a club, might be a bit hip for your dad, but my mum loved it. We went early before the party's began and just has a great dinner in the middle of the River. Spice Bazaar is also worth a visit .

If you have time to live Istanbul visit Cappadocia For breathtaking scenery (in land ) or if you want some beach and sunshine head for the coast of Antalya .

Like others mentioned, museums and bazaars are great places to visit in Istanbul! But I'd like to add Hierapolis-Pamukkaleas a must-visit site if you are going to Turkey. It's one of UNESCO Word Heritage sites. There are also ruins of ancient Rome and a hot spring! As far as I know this is the only place on Earth where you can swim with perfectly preserved Roman ruins in hot spring. It was one of my favorite experiences in Turkey! If you are going to with your father, it would be worth to visit there!

There are other UNESCO Word Heritage sites. The most famous one is Cappadocia, but if your time is limited, I recommend visiting Pamukkale, which is relatively close to Istanbul compared to Cappadocia.

I just got back from Istanbul last week! Take a light jacket with you - it can get cool, especially in the evenings. Definitely see Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Topkapı Palace, and Basilica Cistern if interested - all walking distance within each other. The tram is great transportation too, and make sure to check out the views from Galata Tower. I didn't make it to the Asian side, but I heard it's pretty cool too.

There's a cool sit-down ice cream place called Mado on Divan Yolu across from Firuz Ağa Mosque. A few blocks up from the cistern and the The Pudding Shop if you see that.

From the Spice Bazaar, take the tram to Sirkeci. It's 1 stop away. As soon as you get off, you will see Hafız Mustafa across the street. Best Turkish deserts ever!'

Oh yea, always ALWAYS bargain! Especially in the bazaars. They will usually come down to half-price at least if not more. And put the stuff in your backpack or something so other store owners don't assume you're a big spender and you can still bargain down.
