Take the train from Kalkato Shimla The India Mountain Railways are on the UNESCO World Heritage Site list.

    Kalka

The train starts at sea level and climbs to about 6800 ft passing through 107 (mostly very short) tunnels and countless bridges with spectacular views of the villages and Himalayas along the way. I'm not sure which train we took (there are several models with different features), but we had unreserved seating. The people on our car were constantly moving around so everybody could get great pictures from both sides of the car.

    Shimla

We arrived in Shimla just in time for this gorgeous sunset!

    Shimla

    Hi Nono,

North India is very spectacular indeed. Here are a few places I'd recommend adding to your list:

    1. Leh and Ladākh - Home to the Himalayas. (September is the beginning of winters here and road access begins to shut down due to snow. You can fly in to Leh directly via New Delhi or Srinagar. I have blogged about my trip to Leh and Ladakh here - http://suitcaseofstories.in/category/ladakh/

    2. Harmandir Sahib (also known as the Golden Temple) in Amritsar

    3. From Amritsar take a bus to Dalhousie or Dharamsala, McLeod Ganj in Himachal Pradesh. Himachal is also home to to Parvati Valley - http://www.lonelyplanet.com/india/himachal-pradesh/parvati-valley. You should explore the entire state of Himachal Pradesh - Manali, Spiti River, Shimla, etc - they are all great places for treks.

You will need about 3 weeks for the above itinerary. Hope this helps. Good luck for your trip.

Hey Nono, officially all roads mostly stay open till end october. But most tented accommodations by the lake side, food joints etc are closed with the locals packing up their things to go in to hibernation. Oct however is a good time with less tourist crowds. I'd suggest going through this page - http://devilonwheels.com/index.php/5-reasons-to-avoid-manali-leh-highway-in-late-september-or-october/ · (0 likelikes)

    answered by

Well it depends upon the time and types of places which you want to explore. For example if you are interested in luxury or royal hospitality the visit Rajasthan.

If you are in India for a shorter period the go for Golden Triangle tour which includes Jaipur, Delhi and Agra (city of Taj Mahal). Here you can also include cities like Mathura, Vrindavan, Fatehpur Sikri, Ranthambore National Park, Ajmer and Pushkar.

So if you could be more specific with your question then I can suggest a better option.

    Regards,

    Pratap Singh from ChetramVoyages.in

What are you exactly looking for?

There is Agra nearby - Which is popular for Taj Mahal and Fatehpur Sikri
    There is Dwarka present nearby.

However depending on amount of days you have, Delhi has too much to offer. What do you really want to do? Do you want to just do sightseeing or do you want to add amazing shopping splurges, try local cuisine and visit shrines and temples too?
