Study-Abroad Student Looking for Inexpensive Adventures in Cuba

I am planning on studying abroad this summer in Cuba. I was wondering if anyone could suggest some must-sees and must-dos while there. I am a college student so budget friendly options would be great! I love trying new things so any activity suggestions that are adventurous and fun would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Julia

    Hi Julia,

I've just come back from two weeks in Cuba, and it was a wonderful experience. Havana itself has tons to do, so it really depends on if you're looking for historical experiences, restaurants, nightlife, etc...

    History:

    • Worth checking out the Castillo Del Morro .
    • There are countless museums in Old Havana , so I highly recommend doing some homework on those to pinpoint the ones you want.
    • If you fancy a weekend trip, check out Cienfuegos and Trinidad (Cuba)(Unesco World Heritage site). Cuba isn't the easiest place to get around, so plan accordingly!
    • Have a mojito at La Bodeguita Del Medio and a daiquiri at El Floridita . Both are touristy but former Hemingway hangouts, so they're sort of 'checkbox' items.

    Restaurants (Focusing on Havana):

    Nightlife:

    • Old Havana has some fun bars (I can't remember specific names, but it's a fun place to walk around at night).
    • If you’re into dance shows, then definitely hit the Cabaret Tropicana . It’s a bit pricy, but our group had a great time.
    • The Miramar area has tons of clubs/bars…too many to name.

I'm probably forgetting some things, but that should get you started!

Have a great time. It's a truly amazing place!

Awesome answer, Charles! You make Havana sound like so much fun! By the way, I've helped you highlight the places in your answer on a map! In the future, you can do this yourself as you answer a question by simply typing the @-symbol followed by the name of the place. Take a look at the cool map next to your answer! :) · (0 likelikes)

    Check out Vinales Valley

You can take a bus there from Havana and it stops in smaller towns on the way. You can do some hiking and go on a boat to go through caves there. Their pina coladas are the best!
