Camping in Crested Butte?

My boyfriend and I are headed up to Crested Butte to do some mountain biking later this month. We'll definitely be camping and would love some advice from you guys!

We tend to stay away from KOA and RV type campgrounds, preferring the more remote BLM and Forest Service spots. We'd love something relatively close to the Crested Butte downtown, but would prioritize scenery and campground style over location. Pet friendly is a must and close proximity to a stream / river / lake would be awesome!

Any ideas? Thank you!

National forest "Gothic Mountain" would be close to town. Of course the best camping is Taylor Park reserve outside Gunnison.

I would recommend Lake Irwin Campground It's pretty much everything you are asking for!

You can also try around Slate Rock Gulch or Brush Creek Housing. It is all National Forest so you wouldn't have to pay.
