Looking for things to do in Chicago, IL?

My 15 yr old son & I are traveling via Amtrak next month. We'll be in Chicago for 6 hours. Any suggestions on what we can do/where we can go near the train station while we are there?

Close by Chicago Union Station Main Entrance, you will find the Willis Tower which could be really fun for you and your son to check out the Skydeck from the top. You can buy tickets at the bottom when you arrive. For food and a short walk, I like the Chicago French Market for a variety of choices to grab and sit. Have a great time in Chicago!

Check out Cafecito off of Congress avenue for great Cuban sandwiches, coffee, and latin vibes. Gino's East South Loop and Lou Malnati's Pizzeria (On Dearborn and State Streets, respectively) have great 'classic' Chicago style deep dish pizza! Millennium Park and Grant Park are both extremely beautiful, and you're sure to find lots of photo ops throughout the park, at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park, and at Cloud Gate (The Bean)! A minute's walk from that, at the Chicago Cultural Center (78 East Washington Street) you and your son can catch free art exhibitions (sculpture, painting, multimedia), and admire the insane architecture inside! If none of this interests you, you can head over to AMC River East 21 or the Gene Siskel Film Center to catch a Hollywood or foreign/independent film. And there's great lunch down Van Buren in the Financial District, tons of variety there. Have fun! :)

Take a cab [less than $10] or hop on #141 bus to The Art Institute of Chicago on Michigan Ave for lunch & gallery viewing.

If your son enjoys science, Union Station is fairly close to the Field Museum of Natural History where you can say hi to Sue, the world's best preserved T-Rex, as well as Shedd Aquariumand Adler Planetarium

Willis Tower (sears) is a quick walk from there. As are many restaurants. If you were brazen you might even get in a quick taxi ride away to the Field Museum of Natural History. I recommend eating any Garret popcorn and Lou Malnati's pizza. Both are unforgettable.

You can also take guided walking tours of the Loop by the Chicago Architecture Foundation or an Architecture cruise on the river. If you guys are Bulls fans you can hop on the Madison bus to check out the Unified CML and take a picture in front of the Michael Jordan statue.
