Recommendations for honeymoon in Cambodia/Vietnam/Laos/Thailand

My fiance and I are planning our honeymoon (end of October) for two weeks in Cambodia and Vietnam. We are considering a night in Thailand and are unsure of whether we should venture to Laos. We are interested in recommendations for must-see cultural sites, best local cuisine, accommodations and any "adventure" activities. We don't drink, so we are not interested in bars; although we are interested in shisha/hookah.

The top ancient site in the region you mention has to be Angkor Wat in Cambodia. Really a no miss in my opinion.

For Vietnam I would suggest that you Cruise Halong Bay or the Mekong Delta. Halong Bay has the most spectacular scenery but the Mekong Delta is a lot less touristy and you see more local life there.

If you go to Laos which I will highly recommend then I would suggest the The Plain of Jars which is a spectacular ancient site up in a mountains with hundreds of giant stone jars from a civilisation that the world still knows next to nothing about.

Luang Prabang is also a very nice town in Laos with an excellent laid back vibe and a good place to rest for a couple of days.

    Hi Mia,

You can visit Angkor Wat and then head down the Mekong into Vietnam, see Saigon. You can go to Nha Trang to hang out on the beach. Hanoi and Halong Bay are both worth seeing, as is Sa Pa and the hill tribes. In Vietnam, Hue is interesting, and Hoi An is a bit touristy but still worth seeing in my opinion.

I just got back from a Mekong Delta tour and Cu Chi Tunnels in Vietnam. It was an absolutely amazing experience. I highly recommend it if you want to get away from the tourist life and see how the locals live. The Tunnels were also a great learning experience about the war. I suggest booking with "Jason Superstar" if you do. His English was pretty good and he was full of knowledge. You can find him on tripadvisor.

Definitely go to Siem Reap to see Angkor Wat. The ruins are beautiful but unfortunately the food there is awful.

In Vietnam the food is awesome and so are the people. Definitely try to hit Hoi An... plan a couple of days there and have some clothes made.

How long would you suggest staying in Siem Reap then? Is it a one-day excursion? · (1 likelikes)

Depends on how much you want to see. Angkor Wat is the biggest of the Champa temples and will take at least a day if not more. I'd say a minimum of three days to see the temples. Keep in mind, there is nothing else to see or do. In town there is the tourist section where you can find cheap beers and western food. · (1 likelikes)
