Ah so many nice places in Budapest! Do go up Buda Castle and definitely don't miss the Labyrinth nearby. Walk around the area as it is so picturesque.

On the Pest side do see the House of Parliament, Széchenyi Thermal Bath, City Park where the Vajdahunyad Castle is.

Food wise, Angelika Kaveház és Étterem, Boom&Brass Restaurant and KARMA Kávézó és Étteremnear Octogon square!

    Hi Katica

Budapest is such a vibrant city - I'm sure you'll have a brilliant time there.

Taking some time out at Széchenyi Thermal Bath is a lot of fun, as is the Market Hall mentioned by another responder.

I wrote about Budapest (including suggestions of places to see, plus costs) in this post after my trip there in September 2014:

    http://www.thegapyearedit.com/travel/budapest-city-break-costs/

Hope it helps, and have a fantastic trip.

    Hi Katica,

If you're looking for something unique to do, I'd recommend trying an escape game near Budapest. Escape games are popular in Hungary, require a bit of smarts, and are fun to play with a group like friends or family!

I just wrote a blog post about a few interesting ones:

    http://www.tripnary.com/2015/07/the-great-escape-4-distinctly-hungarian-attractions/

And if you want to know more about the craze:

    http://www.bbc.com/news/business-30415679

I've yet to see this kind of attraction in other cities, so it would be a great way to pass time between the Széchenyi Thermal Bath and Central Market Hall recommended by others.

    Hope this helps! :)

We found a bunch of places to eat at reasonable prices around the District VI. and Octagon areas. There are a few ruin pubs around there too. Here is one of the posts l wrote about Budapest, with cost breakdown, but you can do a search on the site for a couple more. You should visit the Museum of Terror.

Nobody has mentioned the Memento Park Budapest where all the statues from Soviet occupation are gathered. You can get there by city bus. Don't miss the Széchenyi Thermal Bath, and do leave lots of spare time to wander and take in all the elaborate detail. It's a beautiful city. As Americans, we mostly eat factory raised, factory processed food at home, so when we get over there and eat real chicken...it's all amazing to us. You should report back and tell us where to eat. You will probably visit the Central Market Hall and although crowded, was just great to eat from the stalls upstairs, but everything we had in all levels of cost everywhere were excellent.Memento Park Budapest

I just came back and have 2 must do's for you:

    - Go out in Szimpla Kert (on Friday or Saturday): https://www.facebook.com/szimplakert

    - Go shoot some guns: http://www.celeritas-sch.com/

Oh, and stay at Maverick City Lodge: http://www.mavericklodges.com/eng/maverick_city_lodge.php

(The termal baths are an overrated experience, in my opinion. Go, but don't reserve more than 2 hours in your schedule for it)

Budapest is a trendy city full of nice surprises and it's pretty cheap! You're gonna have a blast! :-)
