Suggestions for sweet and solemn place for a short trip close to Bangalore

As a student, I hardly get more than a couple of days off (well that's like standard case, but still). So every time we get a chance to make a plan to go for an endeavor, we can't decide on the place. Any suggestions for a place near Bangalore (not the conventional ones) where we can hang around, interact with nature, do some sports and come back within like 2 days?

Visit Dandeli, you will get good nature, wildlife and some water sports depending on the season. The hotels are decent and it is not very far from Bangalore you can take overnight buses and arrive fresh in the morning.

Slightly longer trip you can visit Wayanad in Kerala for a typical home stay experience (my blog post) + you will get good sightseeing of Elephants, almost on the highway ( be careful and respect the gentle giants ). You can do some bamboo rafting in Wayanad and also visit some caves nearby + plantation experience when you are in homestay.

I love Mysore, which is just a train ride away, and the country around it.
