"Off the beaten path in Amsterdam"
Can someone recommend some off the beaten path activities in Amsterdam?
Also, where do the locals eat, drink? Any advice on how to save money during my 5 days trip?
Thank you in advance.

Saving money can be done by renting a bikr instead of taking the tram and bus. Also look for airb&b accomodation or stay okay hostel. Off the beaten track activities can be found in Amsterdam North, take the ferry from central station and have a look at the Tolhuistuin. If you want to avoid the tourist area, do not go to the Dam square, Kalverstraat and Rembrand square, but have dinner at the Hugo de Grootplein in West or Beuken square in East. Drinks at Waterkant under the Qpark. You can rent your own boat to check out the canals and check to activities in town online per weekend, for example on yourlittleblackbook.me.
North of Amsterdam you can find the fishing villages Volendam and Marken, which is touristy but fun or you can go to the coast to visit the beaches like Bloemendaal. There is also a great Italian place up North, Mario Uva in Neck where you can have a 7 course dinner and sleep over, great place!
