Kids on a sailboat. Cool things to do with them along the Amalfi Coast?

We are cruising the Amalfi Coast on our catamaran this August with 12 year old twins.  Any suggestions of great places to show them?  Cool things to do with them?

    Wow, what an amazing vacation!

First thing first, you have the great advantage of being on a boat so I would suggest that you look for less touristy beaches and coves along the coast to enjoy. A few accessible options that are popular with the locals are Bagni Della Regina Giovanna andLaurito).

Exploring the bigger coastal towns is fun as well, involving a lot of stairs and maze-like streets. Positano, Ravello, Praiano, Amalfi, Scala and Atrani are just a few good ones to explore.

Minori has a cool Roman Villa that could be fun to discover, plus the town is famous for handmade pasta and, of course, seafood.

Bagni Della Regina Giovanna is a hidden rocky beach that is literally set in the ruins of an ancient Roman Villa. Very cool.

If your kids enjoy walking, there are several hiking trails that you could try. The most famous is the Sentierre degli Dei which is a 3-4hr walk on the cliffside from Agerola to Positano . This route has different paths that run from the most difficult and remote one at 7km to the easiet at 2km.

Given your boating advantage, a visit to the Grotta dello Smeraldo - Emerald Grotto would be a real treat. This beautiful limestone cave is flooded with natural light to give the water an emerald gleam. I am not sure whether you can visit alone or if you have to take a visitor boat with guide, but access is via Conca dei Marini regardless.

There are loads of water activities that you can prepare for or hire out from the main towns, from waterboats to snorkelling and diving.

Plus, if the water becomes too much for the kids, Pompei, Herculaneum and (more excitingly) Mount Vesuvius are nearby. You may even want to catch the train at Stazione Sorrento Circumvesuviana from Sorrento.

Good luck and have a fabulous time in the Amalfi!

Paestum! We spent an entire afternoon there! It's the temple ruins of Hera, Neptune, and Athena and a city surrounding it. Not as guarded as some of they other ruins in Italy and you get to free roam through most of it! Just not the temples.
