We did a free walking tour that started at the McDonalds at the bottom of Spanish Steps. There were two tours (one with coliseum, roman forum and more, other was stuff on the way to vatican city, we did both) and got to learn a lot about the Roman Forum, Coliseum, etc, without going in. And then we went in after to check it all out.
