Ahhhh, the mere notion of an entire country that is known for the thermal baths is just heaven. Apparently many of the baths, like this one, have been around for over a hundred years.
This is perhaps one of the most inspiring open air museums you can visit. Known for the sheer size and all-encompassing pillars, this is the largest ancient religious site in the world.
Known as the Gateway to the Himilayas this is a great city if you want to visit an ashram or get some spiritual help via the many sadhus (spiritual seekers) who are everywhere. And funny, but my best friend had her bag of fresh peanuts "snatched" by a monkey on the bridge.
I always have to remind myself that this is real. The rocks here were formed from volcanic eruptions although the legends that try to explain them are endless.
There are these amazing rock formations called "hoodoos" here that look like someone took wet sand and let it drip into a skinny tower shape. One of the most amazing things I think I've ever seen.
Leave it to nature to figure out how to create something called a Slot Canyon. Something about flash floods and the erosion of sandstone actually created something very smooth. Good thing since it is a relatively tight fit for mere humans. This is on my list.
It's kitschy and a bit contrived but I have to say I had one of the funniest, craziest, and most memorable experiences I've ever had in my life here. Then and only then do you get to descend the stairs into the restaurant. You also get a free shot of vodka at that point so you're a tad buzzed by the time you order. The theme here is the Ukrainian Insurgent Army and the wait staff have this shtick where they argue with customers, each other, etc. All in all, it's a lot of fun and if don't go there while you're in town, you're really missing something.…see moresee less

The trail that leads you past this is hugely popular attracting thousands of visitors a year. While you may not get peace and quiet here the scenery is clearly pretty amazing.
This is still an active Greek Orthodox monastery, having survived many religious & regional takeovers throughout the centuries. It is located 12 miles from Jerusalem & open to spiritual seekers and visitors. Incredible cliff dwelling architecture.
