This city is near the top of my list. It is said to be filled with great food, energy and culture and a good complement to the more spiritual nature to a visit to Jerusalem.
The Uluṟu and Kata Tjuṯa are two massive sandstone formations that are spiritually significant to the Anangu people. One of 19 UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Australia.
I have always want to come here and have envisioned my own "walkabout" in the desert. However, this is very sacred land to the Aborigines & although you can climb the rock, it is quite hazardous (heat, vertigo) and it also crosses a sacred path they refer to as the Dreamtime path. I like the idea of visiting any area that has the word "Riviera" in it. The Mayan Riviera is located on the Caribbean coast of the Yukatan and known for its blend of incredible hotels near even more incredible water spots.
Comprised of seven towers, this phenomenal Fisherman's Terrace overlooks the Danube. Said to have a lot of pathways and a panoramic views of Budapest. On my list of cities I want to visit.
The raves keep coming about Kerala. Voted time and again one of the best places in the world to visit, one can't argue. Also known to be the most well-developed & literate state in India.
I haven't yet made it to Parma, but the countryside and architecture are said to be almost as wonderful as their prosciutto and cheese. The last two, I've had many fantastic times.
Groovy motor lodge turned hipster hotel, this one has a unique angle I like: If you need a more relaxing vacation you book your room on the Chill Side & if you're partying it up, ask for the Bar Patio Side. Enjoy the vibe.
This B&B is too good to be true... this giant beagle is actually THE B&B. You enter via a staircase to his body & there's a little hideaway in his muzzle. Genius architecture.
Talk about a natural hot tub. Geothermal underground springs provide the heat. Perhaps this is the only time you want to actually dig yourself into a hole. You'll be in good company with the locals.
Forget swimming with the dolphins when you can swim and sunbathe with the penguins. Part of the Table Mountain National Park it is also, not surprisingly, a penguin reserve.
Where else do you get a "tent" that has hot/cold water, luxurious sheets, your own private bathroom and was formerly reserved for Kenya's Governors? You're deep in the heart of the Masai Mara National Reserve.
Said to be the world's first geodosic hotel rooms, this nature hotel/eco-camp is a must visit if you're into sustainability and true innovation. Great vibe here & the rooms offer everything from the communal vibe to your own suite.
Where design meets culture, this is the first hotel venture of Diesel Jeans. CEO Renzo Rosso gets the entire penthouse/top floor when in town. This is a place to go and be cool. Or just check it out!
The karst formation of Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park has evolved since the Palaeozoic (some 400 million years ago) and so is the oldest major karst area in Asia. Also one of 7 World Heritage Sites in Vietnam!
When you go to Shibuya for shopping, make sure to get a photo in front of this dog - super famous landmark, and a really sweet story to go along with it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hachik%C5%8D
Since traveling makes owning a dog difficult, I guess the next best thing is to go to Tokyo and visit Hachiko. He was known for his legendary loyalty. This public statue is a great meeting spot as well. Near Shabuya station.
I would love to see a concert here (just 15 miles east of Denver). This brings up a favorite movie for me, the documentary of U2s concert Under a Blood Red Sky. For vintage Bono in tight leather jeans, check it out and then compare and contrast with the real thing (the theater of course).
Who hasn't dreamed of a little cave bath? Seems this was that rare place you could actually do such a thing until geological mayhem put a crimp on such visits.
This loop is the only paved road of the park. You're in luck since it encompasses more that 20+ miles. Bring your binoculars because there is a lot of wildlife not to be missed.
This is a nonprofit, work-in-progress memorial to Crazy Horse. When all is said to done, the mountainous sculpture will be larger than the U.S. Presidents of Mt. Rushmore (87' vs. 69').
This Patagonian glacier is located in the third largest fresh water reserve. You can take a mini-trek or more adventurous trek here. Not a bad way to stretch your legs.
The second largest island in the U.S., the island is predominantly part of the Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge. No surprise that fishing & bears are native here.
Turns out if you're a local in Monte Carlo & try to enter the gaming rooms at this casino, you'll be turned away at the door! They even check IDs. Some of these shelters provide archaeological and rock-art evidence for the progress of nomadic hunter-gathers to incipient farmers. Ten thousand-year-old Cucurbitaceae seeds in one cave, Guilá Naquitz, are considered to be the earliest known evidence of domesticated plants in the continent, while corn cob fragments from the same cave are said to be the earliest documented evidence for the domestication of maize. The cultural landscape of the Prehistoric Caves of Yagul and Mitla demonstrates the link between man and nature that gave origin to the domestication of plants in North America, thus allowing the rise of Mesoamerican civilizations. I have only been to Victoria once (and I was about 12!) but I remember being taken with all the flowers. This is on my list of places to visit. Apparently these gardens were used as the model of the Canadian garden section at the Epcot in Florida.
The Plaka is the oldest city in Athens and is right in the "shade" of the Acropolis. Mostly for tourists, apparently it still has a few gems of artisan style shops. Great place to wander for postcards.
I love a fellow rebellious type and the "Corks" are the ultimate scrappy locals. They consider Cork to be the real capital of Ireland and actually refer to themselves as The Rebels. Gotta go there.
Entry here is by invitation only unless you are a member. Part of the Soho House "family" (other spots are New York & London) this is a people watching kind of place.
Luxury hotel in the heart of Stockholm. Ask for the Clock Suite. It is their fanciest suite behind the Berns clock and has a view overlooking the Berzolli Park.
Portsmouth is a regular on the lists of "Best Places to Live" and sits at the mouth of the Piscataqua River, a river that separates New Hampshire from Maine. An east coast "must" on my list.
I've always wanted to dance in a real-live Texas honkey tonk dancehall and this is the place! Home to a host of musicians including Bob Willis and the Texas Playboys, it draws a lot of people and real cowboys.
Considered to be the premiere destination in Africa when it comes to wildlife preserves, you will undoubtedly see many giraffe, but even they are surpassed by the regularly stampeding wildebeasts. Move fast.
