If you stay in Princeville, this is a great, secluded beach between the Princeville Resort and the Puu Poa complex next door. Between the St. Regis parking lot and the Puu Poa complex is a steep path that leads down to the beach. Wailua Falls, just north of Lihue, is a step off the beaten path. Located at the south end of the Wailua River, it cascades into two streams, dropping 80-feet below. Some even say the distance is more accurately described as 200 feet.
You used to be able to do some mild diving here as well at the falls, but I don't know if that is still available to the public. If it is, it is definitely worth the trip.
The pantheon feels most special when you get to experience with few people around... There's no lines, but there are people here all the time so it's another one of the places that you might consider checking out early in the day...
Somehow every time I've made this drive I've screwed up and ended up driving at night...and yet somehow it was still stunning. Not a ton of diversity in it (not like you'll be going through lots of towns or residential areas), but it's still gorgeous.
The Cirque show "Iris" is amazing. All the wonders/theatrics of a terrific Cirque show; set against the classic glamorous hollywood back drop of 1940's (my interpretation)
