Of all the festivals on the planet, this is the one I've always wanted to see the most. There's of course a lot more too it, but basically people throw colored powder all over each other. So beautiful!
Holi in India is the welcoming of spring. Not just dry colors, water with color is also splashed around. Lots of Fun, Naughtiness and games are the highlights of the festival.
These are the stairs up to the Bromo volcano but that doesn't mean you can always go see it. The government issues warnings during periods of high volcanic activity so check the website before you go!
This is called the Cleveland Volcano (makes perfect sense since it's in Alaska) and it's known for being perfectly symmetrical. It's last major eruption was in 2001.
After having been dormant for centuries, the Chaiten Volcano suddenly erupted in 2008, causing major damage to the small town below it. Apparently the lightening here was caused by the static charges in the ash.
Arguably it is more beautiful from a distance lit up at night than it is in person - call me a philistine if you will, but from a rooftop bar with a Mythos in hand I found it more impressive!
