It's obviously beautiful as you can see from the pictures, but what I didn't realize until I was there, is that it's actually a competition. The wind currents at the balloon park allow for the pilots to take the balloons in a big loop. As they come down the "main drag" right in front of the audience, they drop bean bags on targets. closest to the center wins. It's like a traffic jam of giant colorful balloons... really fun to watch!…see moresee less

You can't go in the park without a key (which is only given to residents), but it's still worth a stroll over to the see the architecture. A ton of famous people have lived and the area around the park is absolutely glorious.
This is actually a building just off the park but since I'm recommending this park more for the surrounding architecture than the park itself I'm including it. If your impression of Brooklyn comes from Welcome Back Kotter you're in for a terrific surprise! This is Prospect Park which was designed by the same team that designed Central Park and it shows. Make sure you make a reservation to have lunch or dinner at the top. The top slowly spins 360 degrees over the course of about 30-45 min or something. So you get to see the whole view of the city while you eat. Super cool. But kinda pricey...
I highly recommend going here. I can still remember the first time I unknowingly drove down the same road where Kennedy was shot. I've seen the film so many times and it's so surreal when you're actually there. It's creepy, but it gives you a real sense of how it all went down. The grassy knoll I highly recommend going here. It's creepy, but it gives you a real sense of how it all went down. The grassy knoll is still there. So is the fence where the "second shooter" was thought to have been. There is a mark on the street where he was hit. It's really crazy that you can drive down that street and walk all around. Then in the museum, you can learn all the history leading up to the shooting and all the theories about what "really" happened. Such a sad time in our nation's history, but it as been preserved so you can really get a sense of what it was like that day and how the world reacted to it. You could spend hours going through the museum itself, but at a minimum just go down walk around the grassy knoll to get a sense of things.…see moresee less
