Tamarindo has definitely become a tourist spot because of the influx of flights and hotels but it's still totally chill. We had a beach front room at this hotel took surfing lessons, went dancing, etc. It's a hippie village at heart. IMO, kicked Legoland's ass. Thru the eyes of 3-year-olds (at the time), as well as a 42 year old. Legoland good, but Sea World better. Surprise of the visit: Pets Ahoy dog and cat show.
Hidalgo is kind of the main drag “downtown”. The street reminded me a bit of Bourbon Street in New Orleans, but more charming. It’s a narrow street, lined with tons of shops, restaurants and bars.
