I'd highly recommend coming here very early to be the masses. This is the heart of Venice and depending on the time of year it gets amazingly busy.

I'd recommend coming here before 6AM then taking one of the ferries to a near by island.

took a train here from paris. then you take a boat into venice. the overnight train is such a great way to travel. you wake up and you are in a new wonderful place.
