It doesn't look like it from this shot, but if you're wanting to give your own little Sermon on the Mount at Pulpit Rock aka Preacher's Walk you might want to make the pilgrimmage via the intensive hike that leads to the top. Your congregation can take the ferry.
Nothing like Joshua Tree for a yoga retreat... this was actually the first and only time I've actually slept in a tent for a retreat and it was terrific. Only downside is the heat, so make sure you have lots of water cause you're gonna sweat. A lot of my friends on this trip were climbers, so if Nothing like Joshua Tree for a yoga retreat... this was actually the first and only time I've actually slept in a tent for a retreat and it was terrific. Some stones are up to 6 stories high! Enjoy.…see moresee less
A sacred island in Greece. Believed to be the island where Hercules collected huge granite rocks that he would pile on adversaries after defeating them.

There are these amazing rock formations called "hoodoos" here that look like someone took wet sand and let it drip into a skinny tower shape. One of the most amazing things I think I've ever seen.

They were produced by the region’s extreme continental climate with an annual temperature range of almost 100 degrees Centigrade (from -60°C in winter to +40°C in summer). The pillars form rocky buttresses isolated from each other by deep and steep gullies developed by frost shattering directed along intervening joints. Penetration of water from the surface has facilitated cryogenic processes (freeze-thaw action), which have widened gullies between pillars leading to their isolation. Fluvial processes are also critical to the pillars. The site also contains a wealth of Cambrian fossil remains of numerous species, some of them unique. One of 26 New World Heritage Sites added in 2012!…see moresee less
Known as Garden of the Gods, let's just say DO NOT touch or rearrange the rocks as your own little sculptural creation will make you the laughing stock of eternal damnation. The locals will tell you but you heard it here: The Gods don't take lightly to you touching their stuff. Very bad luck.
There are actually a bunch of interestingly balanced rocks here, apparently due to erosion thousands and thousands of years ago. Looks like a very interesting area to explore.
Like climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro or seeing over 100 countries, it's become a bit of a feather in the cap of "serious" travelers to stand on this rock and have their picture taken. Obviously this guy considers himself a serious traveler!
Hard to imagine going for the photo op here, but if you're one of those people you're probably willing to do a little BASE jumping too. Get your kicks soon though, it is rumored it will soon be illegal.
Leave it to nature to figure out how to create something called a Slot Canyon. Something about flash floods and the erosion of sandstone actually created something very smooth. Good thing since it is a relatively tight fit for mere humans. This is on my list.
It can be overwhelming. The power of the waves, the spectacle of the columns. If you ever get to experience it, make sure you allocate a good amount of time.
I always have to remind myself that this is real. The rocks here were formed from volcanic eruptions although the legends that try to explain them are endless.
This rock is known as "The Anvil" and the island from which is juts out is known as being a thriving artists colony, although that's somewhat unofficial. It's pretty easy to see why artists would choose this spot to make their homes.
