I'd recommend this over the Santa Monica Pier since it's probably going to be freezing and cloudy at this time of year. At the end of 3rd St. is the newly renovated open-air mall which is quite gorgeous and has a very nice food court with fancy schmancy restaurants at the top level. This is for The Beat Museum in North Beach. For the uninitiated, you can consider this to be the place where hippies were born, long before the term was created. It is open until 7p. There are some nice independent bookstores near by.
Sloane will dig all the sights and sounds, even at her age. We got Tatum an awesome hat there that she plays with to this day. Makes for great pics too.
i love stopping in here everytime i can. I feel like i find something new every time. I heard there is a great spot for brunch in here. I'm all ears for new spots.
Take the Ferry between Ferry Building downtown and Sausalito. In Sausaltio you have Le Garage, Sushi Ran, Heath Ceramics. In Ferry Building there are ton of great restaurants and artisanal food stalls (meats, cheeses, breads, coffee, etc)
I've been on Haight once before and definitely recall a Melrose Ave-esque feel, though, to be honest, I did feel a tad uncomfortable with the dubious patrons strolling down the street, lol.
Many people will say Union Square has the best shopping but, I disagree. I think Haight does- it has funky shops, fantastic restaurants and bars, Amoeba music, Ben and Jerry's, vintage clothing stores, and Golden Gate park is at the end of it.
