It's a clothing optional beach, but being in San Francisco weather, most people opt to wear clothes anyway. It's a lovely beach with a really nice view of the Golden Gate Bridge.

It's a legendary movie theater that was built in the 70s even though it looks as if it was built in the 20s. It was flooded when I was there so we had to take these walkways over the puddles. They did not look sturdy but that did not stop the hundreds making their way across the square - me included.
The crowds can be awful but you've got to see it. Personally I think the gardens are more interesting than the palace. Just make sure you check the fountain schedule on their site as the famous fountains are not always in use and you want to be sure to be there when they are.
you want to go here with the kids, just try and head over there in the a.m. as it tends to get very hot in the mid day.. beautiful grounds, rain forest, orchard gardens
