I'd recommend this over the Santa Monica Pier since it's probably going to be freezing and cloudy at this time of year. At the end of 3rd St. is the newly renovated open-air mall which is quite gorgeous and has a very nice food court with fancy schmancy restaurants at the top level. Another uber romantic hot-spot. The Farmer's Market has a plethora of great food options and for relatively cheap. They also have karaoke night sometimes, too. Woot for free entertainment!
I've been on Haight once before and definitely recall a Melrose Ave-esque feel, though, to be honest, I did feel a tad uncomfortable with the dubious patrons strolling down the street, lol.
Many people will say Union Square has the best shopping but, I disagree. I think Haight does- it has funky shops, fantastic restaurants and bars, Amoeba music, Ben and Jerry's, vintage clothing stores, and Golden Gate park is at the end of it.
High above the Strip at the top of the Stratosphere Tower are three major thrill rides that will scare the bejeezus out of you, especially if you have even the slightest fear of heights.
There is something to be said for seeing all of Vegas from the revolving Top of the World 106 stories off the ground in the Stratosphere Casino Hotel & Tower. (Best Views)
