My favorite thing is to hike down into the crater, or go for a horseback ride through it. The most important thing to remember is this.... don't wait until you're tired to hike back to the car- because it's UP the entire way back. This is a GREAT hike and a must do in Hawaii. My favorite thing is to be there at sunrise, as there's nothing quite like it. Keep in mind it will be very cold, so take blankets from the hotel or bring a warm jacket. It can be in the 30's in the morning.
Definitely take some time to walk around the mall. It's quite large, but I'd recommend heading over in the direction of the capitol, or going over to the Lincoln Memorial and Vietnam Memorial area.
It's touristy - but its actually really cool. I just took my nephew after not having been there for a decade or more. Sorta spendy, but the restaurant up top has done a full 180 and is actually quite good.
LOVE this part of town - such a great vibe... combo of hipster, hippy and just overall one of the coolest places I've ever been. Been years since I was in the city, so I've forgotten restaurants, but you can stumble into spot there and have a very New York experience ;)
I don't even want to think about the hours I've spent at this legendary bookstore. Every New Yorker in the world must own at least one book from here and if you go you'll see why. You can find stuff here you'll never find anywhere else. Bring a tissue--it's very, very dusty.
