For how amazing this place is and for being Michelin star-endowed, $75 for a 7-8 course prix fixe meal is a steal. I wouldn't be surprised if this restaurants ended up on Restaurant Magazine's annual list of top 50 restaurants in the world. In fact, I'm surprised that they're not on there already.
I always take out-of-town visitors here. Always, always. Especially if I'm trying to convince them to move here. Taste handmade artisan cheeses to your heart's content at Cowgirl Creamery. The staff at their various locations are always happy to explain the processes and nuances of various cheeses plus recommended pairings.
Some of the best mac 'n cheese I've ever had. They have four kinds and they're all amazing. Go with a friend or two, order them all, and go family style.
It's hard to overrate the Alcatraz experience in my book. Done it many times and always happy to go again. I usually skip audio tours, but this one is well worth the time. My guilty pleasure. Seeing as it's open till 3 AM, it's perfect for late-night grubbing when all the bars are closed. This is where I managed to snag a quesadilla 4x the size of my head -- the quesadilla para dos is actually more like quesadilla para ocho! FYI, their green sauce is amazing.
No doubt the idea of staying at the Ritz Carlton in Half Moon Bay falls under the category of Things I Want... Things I really, really want. They have outdoor fireplaces on the patios of the rooms. I want that. I really, really want that.
There are so many parts of the park that I could spend hours at a time in, but I more often find myself just walking through and soaking the nature-y parts of it, which I love. I do make time for Cal Academy's Nightlife and to see the butterflies at the Conservatory of Flowers during summer though.
If the weather is nice, this is a lot of fun. it's $12 each way, but imo worth it to get out on the bay. You'll cruise by Alcatraz and you can walk around shop/eat in Sausalito. If you only have 1 day, you might not be able to fit this in though.
I don't know how so many people miss this. It's a museum about Paris and it's a stunner. Make sure you see the ballroom--you have to see it to believe it.

This is one of the most amazing museums I've ever seen. You feel as if you've wandered into his house while he's out at the supermarket or something. Well worth making the trip out.
DO NOT MISS THIS!!!! This is an easy day trip and one of the most incredible places you'll ever see in your life. Try to get there in spring or early summer when everything is really at its peak. I don't even really like Monet's work that much but I come here every time I'm in Paris.
