Many big Hollywood movies have been filmed here including Mission Impossible, Amadeus, Alien Vs. Predator, Mission Impossible vs. Amadeus. Wait. No. Not that last one.
Like so many public squares, this has been the site of both tragedy and celebration. Dating back to the 1600s, the square is now a place for shopping, dining, as well as the site of both a palace and a wax museum.
If I spent ten minutes in a pool where someone brought me food I'd end up dying there because I'd never leave. They have little remote-control boats you can play with in the pool.
I think the hotels in Dubai are one of the main attractions, because they're so over the top. The Atlantis has never really appealed to me, but it is pretty impressive to walk through... grab a dirnk near the lobby area and people watch.
if you're driving from the west coast, i highly recommend the roller coaster at the state line in Primm. I think it's at Whiskey Pete's. It's awesome and worth the stop.
My second home (especially for work). I recommend the Pantheon Hotel near the Sorbonne, and a dinner at Chartier, a restaurant that takes you back to old Paris
If you have time to kill at the airport, there's a great spa in the airport. Nice to loosen up with a massage and shower up before a long flight. Especially useful if you have an evening flight and checked out early in the day.
If you want another surreal experience... you can scuba dive in the aquarium in the mall. Something very interesting about swimming with sharks, while looking out to the pedestrian traffic in the mall and seeing a group of women in burkas staring back at you.
I am not a mall guy, but I have to say, this was a worthwhile experience... the watch section alone is worth spending some time. Walking in to a store and trying on $500,000 watches is a surreal experience.
I did not do this on my visit, but all my buddies did and I kind of regret not joining. The novelty factor could be worth it if you have time. After all, it is a great example of the craziness of the place.
Spent a whole day here and could have spent many more. It's not cheap and there's a lot to see so I would start early in the day. The crown jewels are just incredible and everything is displayed so well.
