Unless you are really running low on souvenirs emblazoned with male genitalia (and who isn't?) and/or non-descript leather bags, there's no reason to allow a lot of time here. It's a tourist trap and a dull one at that. Rub the nose of Il Porcellino for luck and kicks and be done with it.
Navigating the area around the fountain can be confusing...finding it, as if you were lost and unexpectedly came upon it is most satisfying... Maybe explore the area rather than explicitly planning on seeing it?
I could spend entire days going through the stock at the bouquinistes. Full of vintage magazines, prints, advertising, etc. this is a great place to pick up a truly one of a kind souvenir. its a good location and there are a lot of international students staying there so its fun. facilities and services aren't great but its a hostel, you get what you pay for
