I'm not a circus person (it's the animal thing), but this building is just amazing both inside and out. All kinds of crazy murals and light fixtures and posters. This always reliable (and always crowded) restaurant is a great bet if you're spending a lazy Sunday at the Marche aux Puces. Plus, the people watching is GREAT here!
I'm actually not recommending the museum (they call it a "Cité" because, I think, it's also a research museum) as much as I'm recommending their bookshop which I love. I was a little museumed-out when I went here so I wasn't crazy about it but if you're into architecture it's probably a must.
You could go to the hammam at the Mosque, or...you could ask a local homeless person to dig deep into their shopping cart, pull out a Brillo pad they found on the street 10 years ago, lick it, and then scrub you down. It would be a lot cleaner than a day at the hammam. It would be a lot cleaner than a day at the hammam. Seriously, this place is gross--I honestly think I may have rabies or something communicable from here. Also, the last level of hell is just slightly cooler than their steam rooms (they should call them Hell Rooms), so avoid if you hate the heat. That said, they do have a lovely tea garden where you can come down from the hallucinatory experience you just had at the hammam.…see moresee less
Good corner bistro... always crowded. Good place for food or a drink (but if I were eating dinner, I would probably eat dinner at Le Coude Fou around the corner) and save Les Phlosophes for after dinner drinks or lunch/late lunch here if the time suited.
This place is never, ever boring--some of the best exhibits I've ever seen in my life have been here. And do NOT get me started on the book store (which, by the way, you can reach from the outside without paying to get into the museum). I've literally spent hours here.
I'm not a huge fan of the middle ages so for me this is only a place I hit if I like the current exhibits. Last time I was there I saw a great one about bathing acoutrements through the ages. If you're super into tapestries and that kind of thing you'll love this.
