I've been on Haight once before and definitely recall a Melrose Ave-esque feel, though, to be honest, I did feel a tad uncomfortable with the dubious patrons strolling down the street, lol.
Many people will say Union Square has the best shopping but, I disagree. I think Haight does- it has funky shops, fantastic restaurants and bars, Amoeba music, Ben and Jerry's, vintage clothing stores, and Golden Gate park is at the end of it.

Consider walking around the south side of the walls around the Vatican, seeing the relationship of the piazza to that area... There's not much north of the Vatican except a touristy shopping district...

Sloane will dig all the sights and sounds, even at her age. We got Tatum an awesome hat there that she plays with to this day. Makes for great pics too.
