While crossing this street after a rain, I slipped and fell in front of oncoming traffic. (it's such a wide street!) Thank heaven the taxi was able to stop. And the pharmacist at a pharmacy nearby bandaged up my elbow. I had braced to be hit by a car and die. Although the glass dome at Galeries Lafayette usually gets all the attention, the one at Printemps is nothing to sneeze at. Make a point of checking it out!
It pains me to say this because I love Bastille Day, but this is the LAST place you want to be for the celebrations. It can get really crazy and almost violent. Go see the fireworks at the Eiffel Tower instead. It's much more fun and much more beautiful. I never really shop here but boy, do I love to see it in the winter! The whole place is lit up and it's a real showstopper. Plus that domed ceiling really is out of this world. I'm not a fan of the area so I wouldn't make a special trip--the city's small boutiques are much more interesting anyway.
