Look up "Ranger Craig." Craig Glassner is a ranger on the island and he knows EVERYTHING about this very interesting national park. https://twitter.com/#!/rangercraig
It has the best views of the city. Take some time at the end of the tour and just hang out... watching the city, the birds, the wind in your face... very relaxing!
The food hall here is must. It's really cool and a great place to grab lunch. Closest comparison would be the Ferry Building in SF, but more food to order/eat right there. You'll dig it.
Yes, but the dream can be a nightmare in August at 95 degrees and people cramming that beautiful hallway of art shoulder to shoulder. BY the way At that time of year once you get in, there s no way out so count on hours of human traffic jams and peering over shoulders to get a glimpse of art.
You'll probably end up here naturally but if you don't, make a point of seeing it. Yes, it will be packed with tourists but if you use your imagination you can picture what it must have been like in its heyday. Some of the stores will be overpriced but will at least be interesting enough to peer into as many look like they have not been touched since about 1952. Also, a number of the stores specialize in gold and it's some of the more beautiful jewelry I've ever seen.…see moresee less
Sloane will dig all the sights and sounds, even at her age. We got Tatum an awesome hat there that she plays with to this day. Makes for great pics too.
Consider walking around the south side of the walls around the Vatican, seeing the relationship of the piazza to that area... There's not much north of the Vatican except a touristy shopping district...
Takes at least half a day if not longer. But ABSOLUTELY worth it. Make sure you do a guided tour. Well worth the price. Navigating the area around the fountain can be confusing...finding it, as if you were lost and unexpectedly came upon it is most satisfying... Maybe explore the area rather than explicitly planning on seeing it?
The pantheon feels most special when you get to experience with few people around... There's no lines, but there are people here all the time so it's another one of the places that you might consider checking out early in the day...
Def plan to reserve the borghese gallery. The "I don't have reservations line" was ridiculous. Also, take Rick's advice and start upstairs. Then go back to the front while everyone goes upstairs during the second half. Wish I had listned to him ... I will do this when I go back in a month!
Beautiful gallery with plenty of gardens, sculptures and renaissance paintings. My favorite in Rome. In the middle of the Borghese gardens - a really pretty and huge park.
