took a half day trip to snorkel and dive. Go in the morning. The trade winds really pick up in the afternoon. Actually that is true all over Maui. Better snorkeling in the morning.
This could be one of my favorite restaurants. This is MUST DO on your trip. It's close to the airport (at the beginning of the Road to Hana) so it's best to hit it right when you land. A must-do in Maui. The food is great. It's held at a beautiful venue with an amazing view. With a great service to top it off, no wonder this place offers the best luau experience in Maui.
Always worth a trip to Haleakala Crater...but do it early in the trip before you adjust too much for the time zone change - makes it easier to wake up and get up to the top for sunrise...not to be missed on Maui!
amazing sunrise trip...do it early on in your trip when you're still getting up early due to time zone change...ask a local what time sunrise is, or look up on internet...get there before the actual sunrise!
My favorite thing is to hike down into the crater, or go for a horseback ride through it. The most important thing to remember is this.... don't wait until you're tired to hike back to the car- because it's UP the entire way back. This is a GREAT hike and a must do in Hawaii. My favorite thing is to be there at sunrise, as there's nothing quite like it. Keep in mind it will be very cold, so take blankets from the hotel or bring a warm jacket. It can be in the 30's in the morning.
I should have said... ride is totally cool, but if you get in the wrong group, you're in trouble (ours was big and super slow, which took away from the fun).
Tip was supposed to be for the crater and national park. The crater is a pretty magical place to watch the sunrise. In any event, avoid the bike tours, unless you can arrange a private tour for just yourselves. Oh, I can totally see that. We had a private group of 8 of us so we didn't have to worry about anyone else. Maybe worth paying extra for a private trip so you don't get stuck.
I loved this hike, you and Story could do this hike pretty fast though, if you just do the first half and stop at the beach. To continue on, would add another hour to your hike, but then you see the waterfall, which was pretty magical. Otherwise an 1:15 there and same back. here are directions to this. very dangerous though. Take Highway 56 to Princeville. Turn right on Ka Haku Road. Turn right on Punahele and right again on Kapiolani. Park along the road at the end of Kapiolani and follow the dirt trail along the stream for about 25 yards. At the end of the trail here are directions to this. very dangerous though.
