very popular spot especially during SXSW. Expect to wait in line for a while (30 mins or more) during high traffic times. Worth it though... because it's good.
Great BBQ, but there is no AC, so you will have to either sit next to the giant fan, or sweat like crazy. Of course, I am not used to the Texas heat so maybe locals won't have that problem.
Carlos Bakery is always fun if you want to be a tourist. Located in the heart of Hoboken, NJ. They are the team from the TV show, Cake Boss. However, there is always a long line outside to get in.
You should check out Musee Mecanique.. no charge to enter and they have games to play that go back over 100 years to the dawn of the video game, think Death Race 2000, to a few more modern fav's... it's very fun and kid friendly! They have some nice eating choices on the water side. They also have a farmer's market on the weekends. You can take the ferry over to Sausalito for a day trip. We saw Steve Perry (who lives in Sausalito) formerly of Journey, eating at the restaurant on the pier for Sunday brunch.
This is for The Beat Museum in North Beach. For the uninitiated, you can consider this to be the place where hippies were born, long before the term was created. It is open until 7p. There are some nice independent bookstores near by.
It has the best views of the city. Take some time at the end of the tour and just hang out... watching the city, the birds, the wind in your face... very relaxing!
Stopping at the overlooks on both sides of the bridge is always fun and awe-inspiring! Then, drop down to Sausalito for a nice lunch on the Bay, gelato afterwards, and then onwards with the road trip...
