On the Rocks
No vacation is really complete without a true "OMG!" moment and if these mountaintop attractions don't do that for you, nothing will. We strongly recommend you not look down while checking out these super-steep and downright terrifying attractions.
There are actually a bunch of interestingly balanced rocks here, apparently due to erosion thousands and thousands of years ago. Looks like a very interesting area to explore.
Like climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro or seeing over 100 countries, it's become a bit of a feather in the cap of "serious" travelers to stand on this rock and have their picture taken. Obviously this guy considers himself a serious traveler!
This place is a hot destination on world tourist map famous for its impressive monasteries perched on top of high end sandstone cliffs. These magnificent monasteries (approximately 24 of them) which were built in 11th century, are known as “Meteora” means suspended in the air. There are a lot of legends surrounding this little chapel, although the prevailing one seems to be that it was started by a man seeking retribution for throwing his brother over a cliff.
On display at Saint Michel's is a slew of treasures that archeologists found here in the 1950s. Additionally, the interior boasts stunning frescoes, possibly painted some time in the 12th century.
They hold weddings here. Bet there are some very nervous guests. While there have been some changes over the years, it's said that the castle has been in existence since the 13th century.
Some people are just way ahead of their time; like Thomas and Gladys Johnston who founded this eco-friendly retreat in the 1960s. Made from materials found naturally in the area (like discarded whale bones), this house runs on solar energy and collects rainwater for bathing.
This is actually a night club known not only for its incomparable views but its vibrant music scene. Probably a very good idea to watch what you drink here.
I'd imagine that when kids hit a ball out of the yard here they just kind of let it go. Famous bullfighting fan Ernest Hemingway lived here for a while.
This looks like you could blow on it and it would fall right over the edge. Interestingly, even though this is in Russia it's occupied by an Italian restaurant.
