If this place had a coastline I'd move here. The Wood River Valley is a beautiful place all year round.

The surf is great. Too bad the water quality sucks. A fun way to annoy residents is to find and use the public access stairs/walkways to the beach. The ones in-between the multi-million dollar beach front homes.

I love San Clemente.

People drive by this place on their way to better known destinations nearby. This is a charming town filled with Professors from SLO, small farm farmers, and the equestrian set.

This place made me want to learn to surf. The water is so fun here. Cold though.

Santa Barbara's another place I've only been to once, but have definitely been meaning to visit again. Will need to plan a separate trip for it!

You mentioned driving up from LA. If you're taking the longer way aka 101, definitely stop by SB for food or to hang out. It's absolutely beautiful and worth the stop plus, they're also known as a foodie place ;p
