Yup, definitely do this. You can buy fruit (to feed monkeys) when you get there. For fun times throw some fruit into a mates hoody and stand back to watch the madness

Finally got to see a Kiwi bird at the Auckland Zoo. And I got to feed a giraffe, which was really cool

agreed with peter. don't take this zoo for granted. it craps on our LA zoo, no joke. don't sleep on this if you haven't been. pay for the sky ride/bus tour, it's worth it -- see animals while you hop from one side of the park to the next.
